Description: This icon has rich color palette, masterly execution.
The symbolic image of Saint Sophia of the Wisdom of God is based on the Old Testament text of the book of Proverbs of Solomon. Byzantine theologians interpreted this text as a prototype of the earthly church and its main sacrament - the Eucharist. The church fathers saw the Christ in Sophia - the Wisdom of God,, the Second Person of the Saint Trinity.
This icon goes back to the temple icon of the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod. In the center of the icon there is a round mandorla - a symbol of divine glory, against the background of which fiery Angel sits on a high throne and dressed in royal clothes.
This image goes back to Isaiah's Prophecy of the Angel of the Great Council and the Tribal Angel in Revelation. This is both a formidable Angel and Judge and Almighty of heaven and the universe.
The upper part of the icon is occupied by a scroll of heaven with the Throne surrounded by angels and the Gospel - Word of God. On the left and right side of the icon there are - the Mother of God and John in the pose of the Deesis composition.
Icon has perfect state of preservation.
This is unique icon of the highest importance.
