Description: The icon depicts a very revered Russian saint miracle worker Aleksandr Svirsky. The Trinity appeared to him several times, telling him the secrets, the plan of God. By origin, John was a Veps (a small Finno-Ugric people now living in Karelia and in the North of Russia.) Next to him - naked old man waist-deep in the ground - John the Long-suffering. This is a wonderful saint with a very interesting biography. The point is that already being an ascetic, living alone on the Light Lake, he was tormented by the passion of fornication. He struggled with these passions with a three-day prayer, tortured his flesh - wore chains on his body, held long fasts. But all that did not bring him any avail. The culmination of John's ascetic feat was that he buried himself in the ground up to his waist for 40 days of Lent. After this feat, Saint John finally received deliverance from the passions. His imperishable relics are kept in the catacombs of the Kiev-Pechora Lavra.
This is very picturesque, beautiful icon from the Russian provinces. The true warm faith of the Russian simple people comes from this icon. It is not aristocratic but wonderful in its own way. This icon is professional in painting, bright in the palette of colors, picturesque. It has lots of nature, which is quite rare. On the second plan we can see the saint's skete on the Bright Lake.
Rare and probably unique icon.
