"Mother of God of Kazan."
High Resolution Images: fragments
The first half of the 19th century. Until 1850. Moscow region. Guslits (?).
Size: 29 х 23 сm.
Technique & Material: Board with out ark, tempera, gold, drying oil.
Description: Very beautiful image of the Mother of God.
Characteristic signs of the early Guslitsk icon painting school in the south of eastern Moscow are: the use of dark brown ocher in the fields - is the special way of gilding and some tricks of carnation (personal) painting and a very expressive look of the Mother of God. Very high-quality and spiritually inspired icons were created there. They were oriented in the style to Moscow in imitation of the ancient "pre-Nikontva" images.
Despite the apparent simplicity, this is a highly professional thing. If we pay attention to the subtlety of writing the names of the saints in the fields, then we marvel at how graceful and light they are made.
The face of the Mother of God is painted in many layers with a slight lightening. The dominant is her breathlessly looking white-blue eyes.
Perfect state of preservation.
