Beautiful and unusual color composition of this icon. The language of colors.
As it is known there is dogma in the iconography that "the spiritual colors are the prototype of the earth colors. Earth colors - are the manifestations of the initial divine light in its descent and glow in the lower realms. " Thus the symbolism of each color in the palette are individually and specifically.
For example on this icon, examining the symbolic meaning of colors used here, we get the following meanings:
1. Green. Icon fields are dark green color and the background of the centerpiece is light green color. Green color is the color of nature, birth, eternal youth, hope and renewal. This color is there where life begins.
2. Gold color is an expression of the Supreme holiness. Golden shine of this icon allows us to feel God's radiance and splendor of the Kingdom of Heaven, where there is no night ever. Golden color represents the God himself. This color shines with the different shades of the icon of the Mother of God of Kazan. The icon generously decorated with the gold, which fortunately is not only perfectly preserved without scuffs and losses, but even retained pristine luster and shine. Gilding of nimbus and top tunic of Emmanuel on this icon is made with gold leaf with the subsequent polishing. Chiton of the Christ is made with the melted gold with emerald green tempera.
This expensive icon was made for the rich customer, that's why there is real gold. As we know the Gold was always an expensive material and in more democratic icons, it was often replaced by another, semantically close colors: red, green, yellow, ocher.
3. Background on the icon field has sky blue color. Blue color means the infinity of the sky, a symbol of another everlasting world.
