"The Resurrection of Jesus Christ" (Descent into hell)
17th century. 1600-1650.
Size: 40 x 36.5 cm.
Technique & Material: Wood, tempera, silver, drying oil. The whole board is processed with a special tool - “staple”, the forerunner of the planer, as evidenced by the vertical grooves on the back side of the board of the icon.
Description: Icon has the painting of the highest class and the stye of the Kostroma school. During this period, Kostroma icon painting school was one of the most elite in ancient Russia. In the 17th century the Kostroma school became the stylistic basis of the School of the Armory of the Moscow Kremlin. The Kostroma icon painters were desired in the Moscow Kremlin, where they worked for many years.
Rarest icon. Icon is in perfect condition.
