Decorative and very elegant "gift" icon. Amazingly resolved arc-shaped fields of the icon. They are decorated with enamel floral running ornament, stylized forest bells. Remarkable unusual item - a scarlet poppy on the icon.
In the 18th century Russian icon painting was divided into folk, elitist and nobiliary. This icon of the Agony in the Garden belongs to the elitist direction of Palekh icon painting. This icon differs impeccably by the high artistic level, the presence of complicated techniques and expensive materials: natural gold, engraved under the cold enamel, etc. The base - cypress board. Cypress was brought to Russia from Greece, so the cost was expensive compared to the local larch, but heavy and strong cypress board was still available to the best masters, so this is another confirmation of the high status of this icons.
Status: almost perfect, light scuff blackening on the background gold.
