Description: Ascension of the prophet to the heaven: Christian tradition believes that the prophet was taken there alive: “And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal” (2 Kings 2:1). Lower part of the icon represents some scenes from the life of St. Prophet Elijah.
The first-class icon, painted in a very special manner; it is close to Northern stylistics, with its expressiveness and beauty of colors.
