St. King David with selected saints: the Guardian Angel and St. Mary
Moscow. 19th century.
Size: 17,7 x 14,5 x 2,0 cm.
Technique & Material: Board with the ark, gesso, tempera, different techniques of gilding, drying oil.
Description: Exquisite paintings, delicate noble image, a special composition of the saints.
On the back side of the icon there is the inscription in Cyrillic: Consecrated on the 19th of February , 1886 in Gorbunovke. (?) Marriage was on the 3rd of November, 1885.
From the inscription we can see that the icon is a gift for pair of newlyweds. This icon is the shrine of their family: Guardian Angel in the center protect the family, and on either side of the Angel there are heavenly patrons of the same name of husband and wife: David and Mary.
Condition: Opened in 2008. On the right field there is a fragment of old drying oil, that has been thinned during the cleaning.
