Description: This icon has the highest level of painting. Bright polychrome palette, flowing draperies of clothes, golden halos. The liveliness of faces and hands is achieved thanks to the “ochrenie” technique - a multi-layer application of layers of tempera from a dark base to transparent final layers. Apostle Peter holds in his hands the Keys to Paradise, Apostle Paul holds the Sword and the Gospel. The composition is completed by the image of the Savior at the top of the icon. This icon was very revered and was restored in 1800, as evidenced by the inscription at the bottom of the icon: “1800. This saint icon was restored at the expense of the church treasury of the city of Pechera by icon painters Egor Rakov and Paul Lagin.” This inscription - is a rare case, which tell us about the enormous significance of this icon.
This rarest icon has the highest collectible and sacred significance.
