Technique & Material: Board with the ark, ground gesso, tempera, drying oil.
Description: Very thorough and elegant art of the high class. Halo of the Saint and the inner frame, made with gold leaf and polishing. At the top of the composition over the head of St. Sergius - Image of the Trinity - in honour of which Sergius built this monastery. This is an indication that the icon was established in the monastery.
Expensive, miniature icon is made in the monastery in honor of it's the founder of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
Sergius of Radonezh is traditionally very revered in Russia. His "
popularity "among the believers in Russia can be compared only with St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker.
The Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius in church literature usually - the biggest Orthodox male monastery in Russia, located in the center of town Sergiev Posad, Moscow area on the river Konchur. The date of foundation of the monastery is considered, when Sergius Radonezh settled in 1337.
