Technique & Material: Board, gesso, tempera, gold, cold enamel, embossing, engraving, drying oil.
Description: This icon has the highest level of Neo-Byzantine style. The beautiful faces of the Mother of God and the Child, the luxurious Throne and the multi-colored background of the icon are complemented by richly decorated arched fields. The complex ornament of the fields is made with gold leaf and multi-color cold enamel.
In pre-revolutionary Russia, an icon of this class could only be ordered by the richest aristocratic families.
The icon was kept in an icon case and is in perfect condition.
Icon was purchased from the private collection, Tallinn.
