Description: This is the favourite Saint Warrior and Archangel Michael in Rus'. This icon was painted in the best traditions of the Yaroslavl icon painting school - it is one of it's brightest monuments. The icon contains the classics of Yaroslavl. It is rich with abundance.
Yaroslavl's best icons, such as this Archangel Michael is extremely rich and festive, with an abundance of gold and blackening, with a bright palette of pure colors. Faces and other open parts of the body are executed here in many layers of transparent (up to 40 layers) tempera - technique "Okhrenie". This is a very complex technique that gives the icons aristocracy and jewelry sophistication. This Icon just clearly contains the techniques of the Yaroslavl classics, so that it can be safely called a reference example.
