"St. John the Baptist"

Technique & Material: cypress board, gesso, canvas, gilding with engraving, yolk tempera, drying oil.
Description: The borders and corners of the icon are engraved with a stylized floral ornament and decorated a la “cold enamel”. Author of the icon was a professional iconographer from a “golden triangle” of Volga area. The icon is made in a rather expensive and decorative way. The icon represents St. John the Baptist with outermost scenes of his life – his Birth and Execution.
Ideal state of preservation of the painting, the icon is under an original layer of drying oil.
