Technique & Material: The solid board, bone gesso, egg tempera, drying oil. This icon has classics of Russian icon painting and high level of painting.
Description: Nikita was the son of an emperor, a globally famous persecutor of Christians - Maximilian.
Nikita was brave and noble warrior and while being a Christian, he tried to convince his father to renounce paganism and also become a Christian. Father began to convince his son not bind himself to Christianity, promising and seducing to him with money and recognition, but Nikita was adamant. He passed through a series of torture but he survived and was thrown in the prison, where the demon Beelzebub appeared to him. Demon also began to tempt Nikita to recant from Christianity and save his a life. But the Archangel Michael appeared in the prison, removed the shackles for Nikita and told to Nikita to reach out and grab hold of the demon by the hair. Nikita took demon and bent it firmly and tumbled him to the back, stepping on the demon's neck.
Three years later, Maximilian remembered about Nikita and ordered to bring him. Nikita appeared to the emperor with a demon holding him on a chain of his shackled to show who is the leader. However, Maximilian again told to torture Nikita to death, but the execution miraculous failed. All people that were present and saw it rebelled against the emperor, even the Queen. On that day, Nikita baptized more than 1800 people and was unharmed.
In Russian Orthodoxy, he was often identified with Nikita Kozhemyaka and Archangel Michael. Nikita is an exorcist. God was granted to him by grace to conquer the unclean force. This icon is prayed from evil, conspiracy, curses, slander.
