Description: The icon is made in the traditional manner of old Russian icon painting, at the highest artistic level.
History of the image: Mother of God of Vladimir is one of the most venerated relics of the Russian Church, the favorite in Russia and abroad. Miraculous. According to church story, its author - Evangelist Luke. The icon came to Russia from Byzantium in the beginning of the XII century (around 1131) as a gift to Yuri Dolgoruky from the Patriarch of Constantinople Luke Hrisoverga. Firstly this icon was in the women's Bogorodichny monastery, near Kiev. "The son of Yuri Dolgoruky St Andrew Bogoliubsky in 1155 brought the icon to Vladimir" (that's why it received the current name and it was stored - in the Assumption Cathedral).
State of conservation: Absolutely perfect. It is under the original drying oil (protective lacquer layer). This situation is extremely rare, because usually drying oil darkens with age. And after about 100 years, it becomes quite dark. In this case it is almost perfectly transparent.
