"The Mother of God of Smolensk" End of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century Moscow

Description: Icon painting differs by its high professionalism .It is unique ancient monument with museum value. The background of this icon was restored in the 19th century, with the same olive color as the original one with thin transparent layer (melting) tempera.
Personal remained intact and it is presented as original from the 17th century. "The Mother of God Smolenskaya" is one of the most revered in the Orthodox Church icon of the Mother of God. According to legend it was written by St. Luke. The celebration in honor of the icon is on the 28th of July.(Julian calendar).
The icon refers to the iconographic type "Hodegetria" (showing the way).
