For the first time in the history of ancient Russian painting the artists of Stroganov School discovered the beauty and poetry of the landscape. On the backgrounds of icons showing landscape panorama with forest glades and hills, covered with trees, grass and flowers.
Historical fact: Saint Florus and Saint Laurus (II century) - brothers masons, early Christian martyrs who suffered in Illyricum, Greece. Known only by hagiographical descriptions (ancient Greek chronicles and legends). They are revered by Orthodox and Catholic churches.
In Russia they were strong worshiped particularly among the peasants as Florus and Laurus - the patrons of horses.
