Description: Old Believers. This is the family of descendants of the first Russian Old Believers (who fled from the governance) who came from the White Sea coast, settled in Estonia and founded several villages in the south of Estonia, a kind of Old Believer civilization so-called "bespopovskogo (with out pope)" flow. There were several villages where time stands still. They did not recognize both the state power of the Russian Empire and the priesthood that they had departed from true ancient Christianity. Therefore, they are called Old Believers by outsiders, and the true name of these people - Ancient Orthodox Christians. So they call themselves. Regardless of Belief, great attention among Old Believers was paid to the art, singing, literature and of course to the icon painting. Many magnificent icon painters came out of the Frolov school.
Old Believers Iconography is distinguished by theological accuracy, impeccable adherence to canons. There are no Western influences or deviations from the ancient canons. We can say that this school was guided to the most ancient samples. For example, this face of Saint Nicholas is very expressive and penetrate.
We can say that this is the reference icon of the Old Believer icon painter of the Frolov icon painting school in Estonia. This is the ancient, before the Rublevsky formidable aesthetics of Theophanes the Greek. This image of Saint Nicholas is distinguished by a lapidary manner, precisely following the theological content. Color composition is a classic of the Middle Ages. This is not just a picture, but a true prayer great Image.
