Technique & Material: board, gesso, tempera, drying oil Description: Saint Simeon of Verkhoturie was a nobleman who was concealing his high social status and chose a life of hardships and poverty. He traveled a lot, but usually lived at the cemetery near the city of Verkhoturie on Ural. St. Simeon lived an ascetic life, and was making clothes for the poor people. In his spare time he loved to catch fish, and that served for creation of his iconography.
Similar to Francis of Assisi and Seraphim of Sarov, he loved to contemplate nature and see God through its beauty.
