St. George - Victorious (Cappadocia). Christian saint that is most venerated saint of that name. Suffered during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. After eight days of serious torture was beheaded in 303. One of the most famous miracles depicted in the icon is called "George and the serpent." St. George spearing the serpent (the snake), devastating the land in Beirut. When the lot fell to give the King's daughter on the mercy of the monster, George appeared on horseback with a spear and pierced the snake, saving the princess from death.
